The terrines are not included in the ‘Tableaux des formes’ (Bastian II pp. 268 - 285), nor in the ‘Catalogue Marchand de 1771’ (Bastian II pp. 286 - 290) – same as the other famous Strasbourg trompe-l’œil terrines from the heyday of the Manufacture. They were rather reserved for the great princely hunting services, such as:
From the ‘Protocollum Inventarisationis’ of February 1761 (anniversary catalogue Clemenswerth 1987 p. 475) we know that ‘vier Schneppen (woodcocks)’ terrines belonged to the large hunting service of Elector Clemens August, which comprised about 600 pieces.
