The Trompe-l’œil-style partridge terrine, which shows a brooding hen on a nest, was created in the faience manufactory Zerbst. Prince Johann August von Anhalt-Zerbst founded the manufactory in his residence city in 1721. Their production program was extensive and varied, their performance of ‘paramount importance,’ without, however, having received due consideration today (Heiland 1925 p. 75). Their production program explicitly included ‘partridges on flower plates’, as can be seen from the mold directory from 1753 to 1763 (Riesebieter 1921 p. 220).
