P7

The chinoiseries on our jug go back to the famous engravings "Nieuwe geinventeerde Sineesen …" (ca. 1720) by Petrus Schenk (II), which Den Blaauwen published in 1966 (Keramos 31 p. 4 ff. leaflet no. 11 and 16)

Comparative jugs: there are two other, similar jugs, which are smaller. Both are from the collection of Lionel Golodetz, Surrey, UK:

  • 1st. Coll. Giovanni Lokar, Trieste. (Cat. Sullivan III No. 187 and I p. 350), painted after an engraving by Christoph Weigel)
  • 2nd. Coll. Samuel Grober, Evanston, Illinois (Sotheby's New York 11.10.1995 No. 244)
