Trompe-l’œil box in the shape of a pear

Strasbourg, Paul Hannong period, circa 1750–1754
Length 11.2 cm; width 7.5 cm; height 7.1 cm

Box in the form of a pear lying on its side with two leaves; one half of the fruit is detachable and forms the cover, painted in naturalistic colours.

A nearly identical box in shape, size, and decoration is published in L’œuvre des Hannong: Faïences de Strasbourg et Haguenau, no. 130, p. 81.
