Flacon with Kauffahrtei Scenes
Height: 7.5 cm / Overglaze crossed swords mark in purple / Gilded bronze stopper / Meissen, circa 1735
Exceptionally fine and early Kauffahrtei painting, likely by Johann Friedrich Herold.
The flacon follows the form of the so-called pilgrim flasks. The flat-bodied bottle features a long, fluted neck set off at the shoulder of the vessel, female head maskarons on the sides, and stands on a strongly recessed, domed foot.
