The Group is not mentioned in Kaendler's workshop reports or his Taxa.
As graphical inspirations, the engravings “L’École des Maris” by Laurent Cars after Boucher and “Le Baiser Donné” by Pierre Filloeul after Jean-Baptiste Pater might have been used.

The model exists in various versions that differ slightly in details (Chilton 2001, p. 300). This group is represented in all major collections, including:
