The surface is decorated with plastically grapevines, grapes and leaves in gold, blue, green and purple. This type of decoration comes from Johann J. Irminger, who applied this before 1713 to vessel shapes in Böttger stoneware (see Menzhausen: J. F. Böttger: Die Erfindung des europäischen Porzellans. 1982 fig. 108). The two gilded masks are modeled by the court sculptor Christian Kirchner, the brother of the later Meissen model master (Asche: Keramos 49 / 1970 pp. 78 f. and Menzhausen op. cit. p. 295). At 28.5 cm height, our vase is the largest of its kind to date.
