The oval base is covered with colored flowers and leaves. The two sitting pugs look at the viewer. The pug woman is feeding her cub. The coat is naturalistic in light brown and gray, the eyes are black-brown. The collars are light pink with a golden border ending in big green bows. The female pug with three golden rings.
The pair of pugs is mentioned in Kaendler’s Taxa, in June and December 1744 (Rafael nos. 95, 96 p. 53):
‘1 medium-sized pug dog with a young puglet naturally depicted, for his Majesty the King [Augustus III (1696 – 1763), Elector of Saxony, King of Poland] – 4. Thaler.’
‘1 single pug as a companion to the preceding. 3. Thaler.’
