Rare Meissen Imari Tureen with lid and présentoir

Painted by Johann Kittel, Meissen ca. 1735
Tureen: Ø 23 cm, 18 cm high, underglaze blue swords mark on the underside of the tureen and a small painted ‘S’ between the blades (see Barsewisch Nr. 45)
Présentoir: Ø 34 cm, underglaze blue swords mark and "K"

Provenance: Alexis Gregory, New York

Our tureen is a rarity:
A complete set of tureen with lid and présentoir is very rare. Claus Boltz (in Keramos 178/2002 p. 95 a.E.) has already complained that in case of these tureens the manufactory put half-finished products - i.e. tureens without présentoirs - on the market.
