Rare large Meissen dish from the ‘Ole Olsen parrot service’
Ø 34.2 cm; underglaze blue sword mark; incised "///" in the foot rim, impressed number "20" for Johann Daniel Rehschuh (Miedtank in Keramos 232 / 2016 p. 15; Rückert in Keramos 151 / 1996 fig. 6.33); Meissen 1745-50
Round drummed plate; the lip with a golden lambrequin border on a brown background. Large scene on the well: Above a green box on a perch, the parrot chained and flapping its wings, barked at by a leaping white-brown Bolognese dog. In the spaces between insects and butterflies. The macaw painted in bright, strong colours.
The catalogue of the Olsen Collection from 1927 lists only two plates with a diameter of 34 cm (no. 1462), but 35 plates. The service was auctioned in January and February 1944 at Winkler & Magnussen in Copenhagen, large pieces belonging it are very rare.
