Large Meissen two-handled tray from the 'Brühl‘sche Allerlei' dinner service

Meissen c. 1743 / 55.6 cm long; 33 cm wide; 6 cm high (measured at the handles: 10 cm high); underglaze blue swords mark; impressed number "27" for Johann George Grund (Miedtank in Keramos 232/2016 p. 16), who also worked on the Swan Service and the Earl of Jersey Service
With 56 cm it is the largest oval tray of Count Brühl's ‘Allerlei’ service.

The large oval lower plate is very rare. In the basic essay by Claudia Bodinek (Keramos 235/236 2017), which lists and illustrates all known objects of Count Brühl’s service, our large plate (NA), published here for the first time, is missing. Ehder created this plate in April 1743. In his dated work record it is written (Bodinek in Keramos p. 44): ‘6.) Count Brühl's inventory of 1753/56 lists ‘four large oval tureens together with lower plates’ (Bodinek p. 12); the estate inventory of 1765 mentiones ‘four lower plates together with four large oval tureens’ (loc. cit.). Claudia Bodinek (p. 43) could only calculate the length of the large plate as 62 cm due to the lack of an example. This is about 6 cm too long compared to the 56 cm of the original.
