The tankard belongs to a small, exquisite group of 19 known Meissen porcelains from the early 1720s (see Horn’s catalogue of works), which Schnorr von Carolsfeld attributed to the painter Johann Christoph Horn in his preface to the catalogue of the Margarete and Franz Oppenheimer Collection.

In addition to ours, there are only 6 other Horn tankards:

  • Coll. Margarethe und Franz Oppenheimer (no. 87 plate 32)
  • Kunstindustri Museet, Kopenhagen (Pietsch cat. 2010 no. 72)
  • Coll. Schneider, Düsseldorf (Ducret KFS 50/1960 fig. 43 and p. 24)
  • Coll. Pauls-Eisenbeiss (p. 422)
  • Coll. Dr. R. Hamburg (Lange 07./08.04.1938 no. 664 plate 58)
  • Elfriede Langeloh (see no. A29)
