Meissen farmhouse with doghouse, dovecote and oven

Meissen model by Gottlieb Ehder, 1743 / Meissen c. 1754 / height: 19 cm; length: 16.5 cm; depth: 13 cm; no mark; form number 2230 / Provenance: Said Marouf Collection (Pietsch 2010 no. 185; Sandon 2010 p. 41); Bonhams 14.05.2008 (no. 79) after agreement with the executor of the Budge estate; Emma Budge Collection (Lange Berlin 06. - 07.12.1937 no. 641). Published in Langeloh anniversary catalogue 2019 no. 127 p. 684 f.

The model dates back to 1743, as the unpublished work record by J. G. Ehder shows. Since 1739 Ehder worked as a sculptor at Kaendler’s side and he was responsible for the 1743 ordered country houses, comissioned by Count Brühl for the "Dutch village" on his dessert table. The green and purple rocailles indicate a date of origin in the mid-1750s. Berling and Walcha indicate as form number the 2230. This number, which points to an origin in early 1754 (Rückert p. 42), suggests that it is a revised form by a successor of Ehder (who died in 1750). It was usual for the revised models in Meissen to be given a new form number. The model is very rare. We are only aware of three further houses: Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg (Kunze-Köllensperger 1996 fig. 25); Otto Walcha (p. 477 fig. 92) = Berling (II Festschrift fig. 78); Christie’s (08.07.2002 no. 289)
